B2O Rail Trail Epic Event Details

The B2O Rail Trail Epic is a recreational cycling challenge. Starting in Bairnsdale, cyclists will travel along the East Gippsland Rail Trail and finish in Orbost. The Epic showcases the diversity of East Gippsland, its beautiful farmlands, pristine wilderness and friendly country towns. There is a single day, two day or three day option plus a choice of distances.

Saturday's Almost Flogged and Fully Flogged Epic cyclists will have the choice of starting their Epic adventure in either Bairnsdale or Bruthen. After riding the Rail Trail to Orbost, a bus and bike trailer service will return cyclists to Bairnsdale on Saturday afternoon. IMPORTANT: Early entry is encouraged to secure your bus ride home.

Double Flogged Epic adventurers will stay the night in Orbost, attend the Epic Dinner and then complete a supported ride home to Bairnsdale on Sunday.

Triple Flogged Epic adventurers will stay two nights in Orbost. On Sunday there will be the option of participating in a SNOBS ride or perhaps explore some single track in the forest bordering Orbost. The Triple Flogged Epic will conclude on Monday when cyclists complete a supported ride back to Bairnsdale.

 

All Epic adventurers will require a medium-high level of bike fitness (depending on the Epic event) and a bike suited to off-road cycling (MTB, hybrid etc.).

The following is a summary of the event

WHEN:Saturday 1st, Sunday 2nd & Monday 3rd November 2008 (Melbourne Cup weekend).

START TIME:The Epic check in and participant briefings will start from 8.00am all mornings and rides will start at 9.00am.

ENTRY FEES & REGISTRATION:Entry in the Epic close at midnight on Sunday 26th October 2008 unless prior arrangement is made with the Event Director. The will be no on-the-day registrations available. IMPORTANT: Early entry is encouraged to secure your bus ride home. Entries on line or by mail.

bike2RIDE OPTIONS: The Epic features four ride options: Fully Flogged 100km Epic (Saturday) departing from Howitt Park, Bairnsdale, cyclists will ride to Orbost where a bus and bike trailer service will collect them and return them to Bairnsdale. Almost Flogged 60km Epic (Saturday) cyclists will be transported to Bruthen will ride to Orbost where are bus and bike trailer service will collect them and return them to Bairnsdale. Double Flogged 200km Epic (Saturday & Sunday) cyclists will ride from Bairnsdale to Orbost where they will stay the night in Orbost, attend the Epic Dinner and cycle back to Bairnsdale on Sunday. Triple Flogged 250km Epic (Saturday, Sunday & Monday) cyclists will ride from Bairnsdale to Orbost where they will stay for two nights, attend the Epic Dinner on Saturday night and participate in an organized ride in Orbost on Sunday. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: The Epic is open to all cyclists with a medium level of cycling fitness. Participants must be over 12 years to enter the 60km Epic, over 15 years to enter the 100km Epic and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

WHERE: The B2O Rail Trail Epic starts at Howitt Park, Bairnsdale for all cyclists. A bus and bike trailer service will be available for cyclists from Orbost. Collecting cyclists at Forest Park, Orbost at 7.15am it will transport cyclists to the start of the Epic.
